What is a Disciple?

Definition of a “Disciple”

A disciple is someone who is following and being formed by Jesus in all of life.

Linguistically, the word for “disciple” in the Greek is ‘mathetes’, and, although we translate it “disciple,” it also means learner, student, or follower. This word is most akin to the environment of an internship where an expert apprentices a student toward competency in a trade or skill. RESPOND (30 min)

Experience and Encounter

  • Identify one way you are being asked to deny yourself to experience a more abundant life as you follow Jesus. Share with one another and pray together.

  • Lord’s Supper (Communion)

Practice and Obey

  • Practice daily surrender to Jesus and listen to how you can follow Him each day. How are you being asked to deny yourself so you can experience the life Jesus has waiting?
